My (Previous) Life Suffering With Ingrowns
– The reason why I say ‘previous’ is because thankfully, I don’t suffer from ingrown hairs anymore. The reason for this is because I have permanently got rid of the hair on the body areas I wanted. How? By using a hair removal machine. I’ve discussed them more in my blog post here. Previous to this, for the 11+ years I suffered with ingrowns (nearly – every – single – day), these are the only products that worked! –
Anyway, it was when I was a teenager and it was the time when I used to shave my legs. I was busy shaving humming to my favorite Coldplay song and when all of a sudden the razor did something I wasn’t aware it was capable of. The afflicted area kept itching the whole day, it was quite painful and I became irritable when I thought I must give it a proper scrutiny.
Looking closely I found a swollen red mark at the place where the irritation prolonged. First I took it for an insect bite – ok I was a teenager…. On looking closely I realized it was actually owing to a hair that had accidentally gone inside a hair follicle, like an ostrich. It was an unpleasant sight, and the pain was punishing.
I was told by my older sister at the time, it was because I was inadvertently using the razor to shave bi-directionally. Well, the damage was done but still, it keep reoccurring now matter how I used the shaver or no matter what I did.
*For the purpose of this story and not to get into too much nitty gritty details, my actual first experience was with ingrowns around my pubic area. The first time it happened, I couldn’t stop itching and it was quite painful. Just wearing underwear sucked because the pubic area was so sensitive and it rubbed on my bikini line. Anyway, we won’t get into too much detail here, I did suffer from ingrown hairs on my legs quite bad which was more so embarrassing than anything else because my legs were viewable to everyone else more so.
My first product that I used to get rid of ingrown hairs was a small cream (see below). This is the very first product I ever used for my ingrown hairs (especially pubic hairs). I then started exfoliating but I found that I couldn’t exfoliate straight away after shaving because my skin was quite sensitive. Then I found a few different treatments such as serums, potions and so on. Over the years, I’ve found quite a few remedies and boy, I found the best and most effective, to the useless and waste of money.
Am I The Only One?
Hell no! It’s actually more common that you think. If you don’t suffer from ingrown leg hairs, you probably suffer from ingrown hairs on other areas of your body and vice versa.
So What Causes Them & Why?
Generally, suffering from ingrown hairs is very common in people with curly hair. Curls tend to bend back and re-enter the skin.
Also, those who have high level of sex hormones end up with more hair growth. The more the hair, the more the chances of getting ingrown hair is.
For the rest of us who are neither of the above, maybe we just aren’t careful enough with shaving 9as my sister would put it) and often end up getting the notorious razor bumps that is a result of hair getting trapped under the skin.
If you are none of the above, you just have hair that likes to grow under the skin instead of growing through it – as simply as I can put it.
If you have been a poor victim like me to ingrown hair, just take a chill-pill. I am here with brilliant ways to say goodbye to these cheeky annoying little bumps. Get cured in a jiffy and do the salsa with your new smooth and sexy ingrown free skin!
