@Shenanigasm @Shenanigasm It does have the potential, but saying that... it really achieves it. The other aspect that frustrates me is virtuosity... I've thinking for quite a while about what makes music good, I mean there are plenty of good musicians but what makes some that step above the rest. A few of the things I've got so far are, Originality, Virtuosity, Complexity ect. The problem I have is that most metal doesn't have Originality or Virtuosity or Complexity.

@Shenanigasm Dave Mustaine only solos on blues pentatonic scales as well, he's said so in several interviews. So he's just as narrow minded solo-wise as Kirk. It's his creative and technical riffs that set him apart. It's all the other guitarists he's had in his band who are amazing at soloing and such. Marty Friedman for example, all his solo's have an almost Bach influence on them and are truly epic.

@Shenanigasm Actually, you'd be surprised at how many people can't hear time signatures. That is because they do not read the notes. I play in my school orchestra and I know a lot about time signatures. I am not bullshitting you.
By: Shenanigasm. on 07 Sep 10, 03:09:47
@DiscoRByrno you can learn any song from tabs but you need to hear the song for the timing, so that's bullshit. Manuscript teaches a lot of music theory though and is a lot more valuable.

@kingnichendrix He's certainly not as good as he appears though. He's extremely overrated is what I'm getting at there are plenty of metal guitarist that could play circles around him musically and thus plenty of better examples. I will admit however he has amazing speed and accuracy.. that's about all I can say for him though. He's a great guitar player but a mediocre musician.

Wonderful! Perfect! The best in the world! CC

@Shenanigasm Yes what he lacks in originality he certainly makes up in tremendous technical ability, you may dislike the guy and i personally admit im not into that type of music but you know what, he is perfect for his band fast paced head bangy sort of rubbish but he does not suck.

@nJrubik do you think people or condemned to one style of playing jackass? Don't forget that you're expressing an opinion please. Here's an example for you, I could write a classical piece and then play it on electric and add some distortion use power chords for the bass notes, add some sick drum beats and what do you have? Metal.
By: Shenanigasm. on 07 Sep 10, 00:53:46
@newjustice1212 Hammet is a very mediocre guitar player. Metallica composes a lot of their melodies and some of their songs like classical but Hammet always solo's on the blues scales. Dave Mustaine is a much more well rounded musician.

@Smashinz2002 Ask me to and I will gladly. Then ask this guy if he can play the guitar solo from "one" and watch him say "that's not what I do." Does anyone get my point yet?
By: Shenanigasm. on 07 Sep 10, 00:49:20
@Atienne01 What a generalized, narrow minded, ignorant statement. Metal is too widely influenced to say something like that. If you don't like the way it sounds that doesn't mean it's not as good. I'm a classical musician but I compose metal.
By: Shenanigasm. on 07 Sep 10, 00:42:57
@Atienne01 Maybe, but metal has the potential to be just as musically complex. Other than that it's all just a matter of opinion, not talent.

@ownag3r they're the same instrument with a different delivery of sound man. It's the fact that they're different styles and that he just talking out of his ass about something he doesn't know that bother's me. My metal IS classical music because that's what influences me to play metal in the first place. I like distortion and heavy music but i still play in the same style but just add my rock and blues influences as well.

@kingnichendrix Herman Li sucks bro.. those sweeps are all flash he's really just playing the notes of the chord individually. His playing lacks melody and originality. All he is is pure speed and little else. There's not much musical thought put into his solo's just a LOT of practice. If you listen closely to more than a couple of his songs you start to realize to all sound very similar.

@newjustice1212 I play metal and I've also been playing classical longer. I could play this piece and I'm actually learning right now from manuscript. It's not not like cause I choose to play metal I'm less of a guitar player. You're just narrow minded to think metal players don't draw their influences from anything but metal. Do you even play an instrument or do you just like to act as if you know what you're talking about?
By: kingnichendrix. on 06 Sep 10, 21:22:00
@newjustice1212 Kind of harsh thing to say all guitarist are good in their certain way herman li, fantastic guitarist in his own right. David Gilmour probably most underated guitar player ever and he is incredible. Who can also forget someone like Peter Green thats class!

@Smashinz2002 Well I'm not a metal player, but still play rock mostly, and I can play all this piece, it ain't that hard if u practice a bit LOL. PD: I'm a teenager (16 years old) and been playin guitar for like 2 years and I learn't this piece with 1 year of playin. Every guitarist the guitarist should give a try dont u think???

@newjustice1212 yeah... at playing asturias
By: ownag3r. on 06 Sep 10, 14:35:04
@newjustice1212 That's a very dumb thing to say. Electric guitar and acoustic guitar aren't comparable like that.
